Product Name: Y-Ring (Hydraulic Seal) / Part No. 720310142

Description:
This component is a hydraulic Y-ring seal, specifically designed for the piston in the low-pressure hydraulic cylinder of a waterjet intensifier pump . Unlike a standard O-ring, the Y-ring features a distinctive asymmetrical "Y" shaped cross-section with sealing lips. This design allows the system pressure to energize the lips against the cylinder wall, creating a tighter seal as the pressure increases while maintaining low friction during the piston stroke .

Applications:

  • Provides the primary dynamic seal between the hydraulic piston and cylinder bore

  • Prevents hydraulic oil bypass during the reciprocating motion of the intensifier

  • Suitable for medium to high-pressure hydraulic systems

Features:

  • Pressure-Energized Design: The unique Y-profile creates an active seal; as hydraulic pressure rises, the sealing lips are forced outward against the cylinder wall, eliminating the need for high squeeze preload

  • Low Friction Operation: Requires less installation force and generates less heat than traditional O-rings or chevron packing, contributing to longer seal and cylinder life

  • High Wear Resistance: Manufactured from durable polyurethane or similar elastomers to withstand the rapid cycling of waterjet intensifiers

  • Bidirectional Capability: Designed to seal effectively during both the forward and return stroke of the piston

Maintenance:

  • Inspection Criteria: When servicing the hydraulic cylinder, inspect the Y-ring for lip damage, nicks, cuts, abrasion, or loss of elasticity. Hardened or cracked lips indicate the seal has reached the end of its service life

  • Replacement Schedule: Y-rings should be replaced during every hydraulic cylinder rebuild. Always replace all seals in the cylinder at the same time to ensure reliable performance

  • Installation Precautions: Care must be taken during installation to avoid rolling or twisting the sealing lips. Lubricate the seal and cylinder bore with clean hydraulic oil prior to assembly to prevent dry startup damage

  • Full Depressurization: Always fully depressurize the hydraulic system and follow lockout/tagout procedures before removing the cylinder for seal replacement
