The wrench is designed to provide secure grip and adequate leverage for loosening or tightening the HP cylinder threads. The HP cylinder is a heavy component, weighing approximately 55 to 70 lbs , making this specialized tool essential for safe and effective maintenance.

The wrench is typically used with a support cradle tool that holds the weight of the HP cylinder while it is being threaded in or out of the hydraulic cylinder head . Using the correct service tools is critical—improper methods can damage the cylinder threads, scratch the cylinder bore, or injure personnel.

Maintenance:

Service Procedure:

  1. Full Depressurization (Critical): Before any maintenance, shut off the machine, fully depressurize the waterjet and hydraulic systems, and follow lockout/tagout procedures 

  2. Support the HP Cylinder: Position a support cradle tool under the HP cylinder to manage its weight before attempting removal 

  3. Apply the Wrench: Insert the wrench securely onto the HP cylinder flats or nut

  4. Rotate Counter-Clockwise: Use steady, controlled pressure to unthread the cylinder from the hydraulic cylinder head. Support the weight of the cylinder until it completely clears the plunger 

  5. Inspect Threads: After removal, inspect the cylinder threads for galling. If galling is present, dress the threads with a file or sandpaper before reinstallation 

  6. Lubricate Threads: Prior to reinstallation, apply high-pressure anti-seize lubricant ("Goop") to the cylinder threads and shoulder guides 

  7. Reinstall Carefully: Align the cylinder with the plunger using the support cradle. Thread the cylinder in clockwise.

  8. Final Tightening: Tighten the HP cylinder hand-tight with the cylinder wrench, then tap the wrench with the palm of your hand to achieve final tightness

  • Clean the wrench thoroughly after each use to remove grease, water, and metal debris to prevent rust

  • Inspect the tool for burrs, cracks, or damage before each use

  • Store the wrench in a clean, dry location to protect its precision surfaces
