Product Name: Autoline™ Diamond Orifice Assembly (0.010″ / 0.254 mm) – Part No. 05077029
Description:
This component is a synthetic diamond orifice assembly specifically designed for Autoline™ series abrasive waterjet cutting heads . It is a precision consumable component that creates the initial ultra-high-pressure waterjet before it enters the mixing chamber where abrasive is added. The orifice diameter is 0.010 inches (0.254 mm) .
The orifice assembly consists of a stainless steel housing containing a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) disc with a laser-drilled microscopic hole. Diamond is one of the hardest materials known, providing exceptional wear resistance and longevity in abrasive cutting environments . The diamond construction offers significantly extended service life compared to standard sapphire or ruby orifices, maintaining precise geometry even after prolonged use .
This component is rated for continuous operation at 60,000–94,000 PSI (approximately 4,137–6,480 bar) and is compatible with Autoline™ I and Autoline™ II cutting head assemblies . It is listed as Item 4 in KMT Autoline™ Diamond Orifice parts documentation . The component weight is approximately 0.002 lbs (0.001 kg) . Cross-reference part numbers include KMT #05077029, WSI #ORAL10D, and other industry equivalents .
Applications:
Generates the initial coherent high-pressure waterjet before abrasive mixing in Autoline™ series cutting heads
Installed in the upper section of the cutting head assembly, positioned above the mixing chamber and focusing tube
Suitable for ultra-high pressure waterjet systems operating at 60,000–94,000 PSI (4,137–6,480 bar)
Used for precision cutting of hard materials including metals, stone, glass, ceramics, and composites
Features:
Diamond Construction: Manufactured from synthetic diamond, one of the hardest known materials, ensuring superior resistance to wear and exceptional longevity
Precision Laser-Drilled Orifice: The 0.010 inch (0.254 mm) diameter hole creates an extremely precise, coherent waterjet for optimal cutting performance
Extended Service Life: Diamond orifices maintain shape and precision even after prolonged use, resulting in consistent cutting quality
Superior Abrasion Resistance: Diamond‘s exceptional hardness provides excellent resistance to abrasive wear caused by high-velocity water flow and garnet particles, reducing replacement frequency
High-Pressure Rating: Engineered for continuous operation at pressures up to 94,000 PSI (6,480 bar)
Autoline™ Compatibility: Specifically designed for Autoline™ style cutting heads, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance
Lightweight: Approximately 0.002 lbs (0.001 kg) for easy handling during maintenance
Cross-Reference Compatibility: Interchangeable with KMT #05077029 and WSI #ORAL10D
Maintenance:
Water Quality Protection (Critical):
Water Quality Impact: Poor water quality with contaminants, hardness (calcium, magnesium, silicon), or inadequate filtration dramatically reduces orifice life . Scale buildup from dissolved solids can form deposits around the internal diameter of the orifice, eventually resulting in poor jet quality
Filter Requirement: A fine particle filter (last chance filter) is installed just before the orifice to prevent particles upstream in the high-pressure system from entering and damaging the orifice
System Flushing: After servicing the pump, nozzle, or replacing any piece of plumbing, always flush the system by running a water-only test for several minutes with both the orifice and last chance filter removed
Cleaning and Inspection:
Regular Cleaning: Despite water treatment, dissolved solids (calcium, magnesium, silicon) can collect on the orifice. Periodic cleaning using white vinegar in an ultrasonic cleaner will maintain a clean, coherent waterjet stream and extend orifice life
Visual Inspection: Before each operation, observe the waterjet at low pressure. A good water-only stream should be symmetrical, coherent, and brilliant . The water column exiting the mixing tube should be straight, transparent, and bright
Jet Quality Check: If the stream becomes divergent, sprays, or the water column is not straight, the orifice may be damaged, misaligned, or have mineral buildup
Inspect for Damage: Check the orifice for mineral deposits, plugging, or visible wear. Even minor surface damage affects jet coherence and cutting performance
Replacement and Handling:
No Fixed Replacement Schedule: Diamond orifices do not require replacement on a fixed schedule (e.g., every 5 days or every week). Replace only when the waterjet shows divergence, sprays, or cutting performance degrades
Diamond Orifice Advantage: Unlike sapphire/ruby orifices which must be discarded when damaged, diamond orifices can often be restored by cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner
Clean Installation: Before installing a new orifice, thoroughly clean the cutting head assembly to ensure no debris or contaminants are present. Contamination can damage the diamond orifice
Orifice to Mixing Tube Ratio: For optimal cutting performance and extended mixing tube life, maintain a 1:3 diameter ratio between the orifice and mixing tube. For a 0.010 inch (0.254 mm) orifice, use a 0.030 inch (0.762 mm) mixing tube
Storage: Store spare orifices in a clean, dry, protective container to prevent dust contamination or physical damage to the delicate diamond surface before use
Performance Maximization:
Proper Alignment: Ensure the orifice is correctly seated and aligned in the cutting head assembly. Misalignment causes poor jet coherence and accelerates mixing tube wear
Rotate Mixing Tube: After every 8 hours of cutting, rotate the mixing tube 90 degrees to distribute wear evenly and extend component life
Use Quality Abrasive: Use only clean, dry, high-quality garnet abrasive. Wet or contaminated abrasive can cause clogging and accelerated wear
Clean Environment: Perform all maintenance in a clean area. Keep hands clean and free of contaminants before handling nozzle components. Any contamination can negatively impact cutting performance
