Description:

Maintenance:

Water Quality Protection (Critical):

  • Water Quality Impact: Poor water quality with contaminants, hardness (calcium, magnesium, silicon), or inadequate filtration dramatically reduces orifice life . Scale buildup from dissolved solids can form deposits around the internal diameter of the orifice, eventually resulting in poor jet quality 

  • Filter Requirement: A fine particle filter (last chance filter) is installed just before the orifice to prevent particles upstream in the high-pressure system from entering and damaging the orifice 

  • System Flushing: After servicing the pump, nozzle, or replacing any piece of plumbing, always flush the system by running a water-only test for several minutes with both the orifice and last chance filter removed 

Cleaning and Inspection:

  • Regular Cleaning: Despite water treatment, dissolved solids (calcium, magnesium, silicon) can collect on the orifice. Periodic cleaning using white vinegar in an ultrasonic cleaner will maintain a clean, coherent waterjet stream and extend orifice life 

  • Visual Inspection: Before each operation, observe the waterjet at low pressure. A good water-only stream should be symmetrical, coherent, and brilliant . The water column exiting the mixing tube should be straight, transparent, and bright

Performance Maximization:

  • Proper Alignment: Ensure the orifice is correctly seated and aligned in the cutting head assembly. Misalignment causes poor jet coherence and accelerates mixing tube wear 

  • Rotate Mixing Tube: After every 8 hours of cutting, rotate the mixing tube 90 degrees to distribute wear evenly and extend component life 

  • Use Quality Abrasive: Use only clean, dry, high-quality garnet abrasive. Wet or contaminated abrasive can cause clogging and accelerated wear
