Product Name: Pneumatic Valve Assembly (BFT Waterjet)

Description:
The BFT pneumatic valve is a critical flow control component in a waterjet cutting system. It is typically installed in the high-pressure line between the intensifier pump and the cutting head, where it controls the start and stop of the ultra-high-pressure waterjet.

The valve is pneumatically actuated, meaning it uses compressed air (typically from the facility's air supply) to open and close the internal valve mechanism. The valve body is manufactured from high-strength materials such as stainless steel to withstand the extreme pressures (up to 60,000–94,000 PSI) and flow rates inherent to waterjet cutting.

This pneumatic valve assembly is available in two primary configurations: Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC). These safety configurations determine the valve's default state in the event of an air supply failure.

Within the BFT intensifier assembly (models CP022001/2 and HT022012/172), the pneumatic valve works in conjunction with other components, including the check valve body (CP022040/591), pistons, cylinders, and various sealing rings.

Applications:

  • Water Flow Control: Used as the primary on/off valve (water switch) to start and stop the cutting jet.

  • System Protection: Prevents dangerous backflow from the cutting head to the pump.

  • High-Pressure Systems: Rated for operation in 60,000–94,000 PSI waterjet systems.

  • Compatibility: Standard components are interchangeable with major waterjet systems, including KMT, FLOW, OMAX, and BFT.

Features:

  • Pneumatic Actuation: Provides fast, reliable on/off cycling controlled by a simple air signal.

  • Durable Construction: High-strength stainless steel components resist corrosion and wear from high-velocity water flow.

  • Replaceable Wear Parts: Critical internal components such as the valve stem (needle), valve seat, seal assembly, and backup rings are designed as consumable items and are available in repair kits.

  • Precision Sealing: Uses precision O-rings, backup rings, and metal-to-metal sealing surfaces to maintain pressure integrity.

Maintenance:

Failure Diagnosis:

  • Water Leakage: If water drips from the mixing tube when the valve should be closed, the internal valve stem or seat is likely worn.

  • Pressure Drop: Inability to maintain rated cutting pressure can be caused by internal leakage past the valve seals.

  • Sluggish Actuation: Slow or erratic starting/stopping of the jet indicates worn seals or insufficient air pressure.

  • External Leakage: Visible water weeping from the valve body indicates seal failure.

Repair and Replacement (General Procedure):

  • Full Depressurization (Critical): Before any maintenance, fully depressurize the waterjet system and disconnect the air supply. Follow lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Valve Stem and Seat Replacement: The primary wear components are the valve stem (needle) and the valve seat. These should be replaced as a matched set.

  • Seal Assembly Replacement: The dynamic seal assembly and backup rings (brass/stainless steel) must be replaced during a rebuild to prevent leaks.

  • Pneumatic Actuator Adjustment: When reassembling, thread the actuator onto the valve body by hand. After it contacts the stem, back it off 360° (one full turn), then advance it 180° (half a turn) to set the correct actuation clearance.

  • Lubrication: Apply high-pressure anti-seize compound to threads and a light coat of high-pressure grease to new seals during installation.

  • Test for Leaks: After installation, pressurize the system and test the valve cycle several times to verify it opens/closes fully and seals without leaks.

  • Use Repair Kits: Use OEM-quality repair kits (e.g., Integrated On/Off Repair Kit) which contain all necessary seals, O-rings, backup rings, and the valve stem for a complete overhaul.

Cross-Reference Information:

  • Compatible with BFT intensifier assemblies CP022001/2 and HT022012/172.

  • Associated components include valve body CP022040/591 and various sealing rings.
