Customization: Can equipment be customized for my special materials or special workpieces such as pipes?

Yes. Customization is a core capability of professional waterjet manufacturers. Standard machines cover the majority of flat-plate cutting needs, but special materials and workpieces often require tailored configurations.

Customization for Special Materials

Material properties determine pump pressure, abrasive type, and cutting head design. For extra-thick steel or titanium, pumps can be configured up to 6,200 Bar (90,000 PSI) to maintain cutting speed and edge quality. For heat-sensitive composites such as CFRP, low-pressure and specialized nozzle configurations reduce delamination risk. For food, rubber, or foam, pure water cutting heads replace abrasive systems entirely. For brittle materials like glass and ceramics, optimized piercing parameters and soft-start pressure ramps prevent crack initiation. Abrasive delivery systems can also be adapted for finer or coarser garnet mesh sizes according to surface finish requirements.

Customization for Special Workpieces

Pipe and tube cutting is one of the most common special requirements. Rotary chuck systems allow the workpiece to rotate while the cutting head moves along its axis, enabling precise circumferential cuts, holes, and saddle profiles. Standard pipe-cutting configurations handle diameters from 20mm up to 800mm, with wall thickness up to 30mm. For very long pipes, an axial feed system extends the cutting length beyond the table dimensions. Other special workpieces include:

  • Beveled plates for weld preparation, using 5-axis heads with articulation up to ±68 degrees

  • Complex 3D parts such as aerospace brackets, cut with full 5-axis contouring

  • Honeycomb and sandwich structures, cut with optimized low-pressure parameters

  • Large stone slabs, handled on custom gantry tables up to 14m × 4m

Customization Scope

Customizable elements include table size, pump pressure and type (intensifier or direct-drive), number of cutting heads (single, dual, or multi-head), automation level (robotic integration, automatic loading), control software and CAD/CAM compatibility, and auxiliary systems such as water chillers, abrasive feeders, and water treatment units.
